Artifact Cluster.
This artifact cluster has four mata’a
bases, more than 200 obsidian flakes within a ten-square meter area, large
cores of obsidian (prior to second phase reduction with cortex), at least
five coral fragments, about 30-50 poro fragments, two large paenga
stones, and one adze fragment. There
are also more than 20 fragments of fine-grained basalt, a possible
obsidian “knife” and a basalt adze made from a water worn cobble. This
artifact cluster is located 20m from the central cave (F 44), on a bearing
of 330 degrees. The cluster
appears to be located in an area of recent deflation (i.e., very little
grass with exposed soil.) |
