paenga. This hare
paenga measures 13.3 m in length and 2.25 m in width. It is comprised
of 19 paenga and one associated stone of about 75cm by 75 cm with a
depression in the center of it. This hare
paenga is close to the base of the hill that surrounds the valley and
the stones on the uphill side are slightly more exposed. A low stone,
denoted “A” on the map, may be the entryway. There are many scattered
water worn beach cobbles (poro) extending about 10m west
(down-slope) from the hare paenga.
Two paenga, adjacent and south of the “entryway” stone have holes on
both the internal (mountainside) and external (seaside) vertical surfaces,
as well as the typical cupped depressions on the horizontal surface.
Seaward (down slope) erosion has pushed over most of the
paenga. It is unclear whether the structure is simply buried or is
missing stones. This hare paenga
is 125 m from the base of the fallen moai (F 39) on a bearing of 112
degrees. |
