| Hare
paenga, nearly complete. Paenga stones on each end of the
foundation are missing. The east or upslope side of the feature acts as a
sediment trap with colluvium reaching the top of the paenga stones.
The feature measures about 9m by 5m. Water worn beach cobbles (poro)
are found both on the east and west sides of the hare
paenga. In addition, there are three poro in the interior of
the structure. The stone to the left of label "A" on the map may
be the entryway. The bearing
of the entryway is 300 degrees. The stone labeled "B" on the
northeast side of the house is a well-worn and broken paenga
with a cupped depression in the top. The points labeled “C” and
“D” are paenga outside the presumed perimeter of the foundation forming the hare
paenga. There are no paenga
perpendicular to the long axis of the house to frame the entryway, as seen
on nearby hare paenga. The cupped depressions on the paenga vary from 5cm by 6cm and 7cm deep to depressions that are
barely visible. There are 24 paenga
stones in total. The hare paenga
is located 74m bearing 112 degrees to the base of the fallen moai (F 39).
"E" is an associated stone with a large depression in the top
that may have been artificially modified. |
