paenga and associated poro pavement. The length of this
feature is 14.0m with a width of 6.3m. It is comprised of 29 paenga arranged in an elliptical form, but this feature is missing paenga
at each end of the foundation. The maximum internal width is 1.77 m. The
entrance is about in the middle of the structure, facing seaward (310
degrees), as defined by two parallel
paenga perpendicular to the main structural foundation. The entrance
width averages 45 cm and is 1.2 meters in length. A threshold stone that
appears to be a reused paenga, is set about 10 cm below the surrounding
paenga, and crosses the entranceway. There are cupped depressions on top
of the paenga; some extend through the adjacent side. This occurs on the
fourth and ninth paenga on the
seaward side from north to south. The Pavement is semicircular in shape,
made up of water worn cobbles surrounding the entryway. The entryway is
also paved with smaller poro. The north side of the hare paenga is located 4.3 m from the fallen moai (F 39) on a
bearing of 350 degrees. There are several obsidian flakes located among
the pavement stones. At point "A" on the map (southernmost entry
stone, seaward end) there are cupped depressions on the top and sides of
the stone. They do not connect, unlike the fourth and ninth paenga
stones. |
