F39 Moai
Moai. This feature is a moai of Rano Raraku stone fallen face down at an orientation of 320 degrees (i.e., the long axis of the moai). It is not associated with an ahu, and thus appears to be a statue abandoned while in transit from the distant quarry of Rano Raraku.  The moai is 6.55m long.  Its base width is 2.24m; base depth 1.39 m; left ear length 1.46m, lobe 97cm; right ear length 1.44m, lobe 1.03m; right arm length 2.56 m (incomplete); left arm length 3.05m (less eroded); right eye width 50cm. left eye width 49cm; width at eyes 1.44 m; shoulder width 2.44m; face length 1.5m. Due to the position of moai we cannot measure width of head at mouth, width of nose.  There are five possible curbstones (of a moai transport road segment?) 5m away from the moai at 167 degrees (from the left edge of base of the moai). Earth has been removed from beneath the moai, and this excavation and a stone structure form a small shelter. On the south side of the moai, there is a rough half circle extending from the length of the moai about 5m, including two pieces of red scoria, 12 paenga, many poro, and vesicular basalt. The shelter beneath the moai is 3.4m from the moai's chin (lengthwise) by1.85m wide and 82cm high. There is a north wall on the shelter under the moai that is lined with eight rectangular stones; one has visible postholes. There are obsidian flakes, bone fragments, and many small pebbles within the shelter.
