| Hare
paenga (fairly complete). The
foundation of this hare paenga measures 13.5m in length and 2.04m in
width. and is comprised of 38 paenga.
The entrance is 67.5cm wide (measured from the exterior).
The northern end of the hare
paenga is complete, but at the south end a few paenga
are missing. One paenga is located inside the structure, on the north end.
Poro are present at both
north and south ends of the foundation. Water worn cobbles, “poro,”
form a pavement on the western side, bordered by recycled paenga.
To the east, there is a large paenga
lying on its side. The
entrance of the hare paenga faces the sea with an orientation of
300 degrees NW. There is a
disturbed manavai northwest of
this feature. At the northern extent of this hare paenga is an
unusual paenga, measuring19 by
20cm. It is fairly round with
a large hole. The depth of
the hole is 11cm. The hare paenga is 24.78m from the north end to
the center of fallen moai (F 39), bearing 18 degrees.
There is a small, very smooth, broken cobble lying midway between the
entrance and the feature’s south tip. The two-entryway paenga
each have a 4cm deep notch carved into them between 7 and 10cm from their
eastern ends. In addition,
the southern entrance paenga has
a column of seven shallow notches carved down it.
It is possible that the northern entrance stone had identical
notches but it may now be too eroded for further identification. |
