Lab 1A: Skull and Teeth

Objectives: Review the basic anatomy/osteology of the human skull and dentition.

Reading: Chapter 2, pages 28-38 in Byers (2005); Chapters 1 & 2 (pp. 9-21) in Byers and Myster (2005)

In the laboratory:

  1. Be able to identify (and name) all the bones of the skull using both articulated and disarticulated study specimens.
  2. Identify the special features covered on pages 28-38 of Byers (2005).
  3. Complete Worksheet Exercise 2.1A - 2.1E in Byers and Myster (2005)
  4. Complete Worksheet Exercise 2.5 in Byers and Myster (2005)

Outside of the lab:

  1. Using the attached diagram of a skull identify the marked bones/features. I.e., make a list of names that corresponds to the numbered bones/features. Further, identify and label the sagittal, lambdoidal, squamosal, and coronal sutures.
