Dr. Nina Etkin Memorial Tree and Plaque

A commemorative tree was planted in honor of Dr. Etkin on May 7, 2009. Subsequently a memorial plaque was installed at the base of the tree. The tree and plaque are located alongside the walkway between Saunders Hall and Dean Hall (see map, point 1).

Many of those closest to Nina spent long weeks deciding on the perfect tree to plant. It had to be fairly uncommon, yet adaptable. Finally, they decided on the genus and species Majidea zanguebarica since not only is it seldomly seen and quite special, but this will be the first planting of its kind on the UH campus.
