Course List for Summer 2009
First Session: May 26-July 2
Archaeological Field Techniques (Hunt & Burney) – Anth 381: 6 credits
Meets M-T-W-Th all day, field trips on Saturdays. Offers hands-on experience in all phases of archaeological field work, including survey, mapping, excavation, coring, and materials identification, testing, and analysis.
Hawaiian Archaeology (Hunt) – Anth 464: 3 credits
Meets M-W 6-8 pm. Lecture course providing archaeological perspective on Hawaii’s past; origins of Hawaiians; early settlement and culture change; settlement patterns and material culture; historic sites preservation. Field trips on Saturdays.
Natural History of the Hawaiian Islands (Burney) – Bot/Zool 450: 3 credits
Meets T-Th 6-8 pm. Lecture course covering the basics of geology, geography, plants, vertebrates, invertebrates, and environmental change from a state-wide perspective. Field trips on Saturdays.
Second Session: August 10-24
Botanical Illustration (Hollender) – 2 credits
Meets M-T-W-Th all day for two weeks. Teaches fundamentals and advanced concepts of botanical illustration. Previous drawing experience not required. For more information, go to www.whartdesign.com/hawaii2009.html
Natural History of the Hawaiian Islands (Burney) – Bot/Zool 450: 3 credits
Meets M-T-W-Th 6-8 pm. Same course as offered in First Session, but with four lectures per week for two weeks rather than two per week for four weeks. Field trips on Saturdays.
